Senior Family Law Paralegal 

Fournier Law is a boutique Family Law firm located in downtown Tallahassee, Florida. It is  comprised of 3-4 attorneys and 2-3 paralegals with the addition of part-time staff typically sourced  from Florida State University Law School. We are looking for a senior family law paralegal to join our  team. 

A Senior Family Law Paralegal will manage and develop high conflict and complex divorce and  other family cases involving contested child custody matters, jurisdictional issues, relocations,  identification and division of marital assets & debts, establishment and de-establishment of paternity  issues, modifications and enforcement of prior orders and adoptions. The Paralegal will be  supporting our practice by preparing documents such as initial pleadings, motions, responses,  financial affidavits, certificates of compliance, notices, subpoenas and legal correspondence, as well  as organizing and maintaining files. The paralegal will file pleadings with court clerks and help prepare  for trials by organizing exhibits, analyzing documents, data and financial records, and assisting with  other tasks as required. Paralegals will frequently work with clients to procure documents and  records; assess assets/debts related to the pending matter, and run various calculations based on the  financial documents. Paralegals work directly with the attorney and other support staff in preparing  for hearings, depositions, mediation and trial. Additionally, they will frequently communicate with  experts, court staff and opposing counsel to address pending issues as directed by the attorney.  

A Senior Paralegal needs to be proficient with Microsoft Office applications such as Word and  Excel, comfortable with internet platforms and research, and be able to multitask effectively and  essentially thrive in a busy, team-oriented environment. He/she will also need to be proficient in client  management software, billing software and all electronic office equipment. 

A Senior Paralegal must be detail oriented, articulate, self-motivated, and able to self-direct to  seek answers to questions as they arise. Must have an underlying knowledge of and familiarity with  the practice of family law and litigation experience in Florida; and knowledgeable about the Rules of  Procedure, Administration and The Rules Regulating The Florida Bar. 

Paralegal Responsibilities

* Preparing affidavits, legal correspondence, and other documents for attorneys. * Organizing and maintaining documents in a paper or electronic filing system. * Meeting with clients, attorneys, and other professionals to talk about case details. * Filing pleadings with court clerk. 

* Helping prepare for trial by organizing exhibits and assisting with other tasks as needed. * Preparing briefs, wills, contracts, real estate closing statements, pleadings, appeals, and other  legal documents. 

* Investigating facts and laws of cases and searching public records and other resources to  prepare cases and determine causes of action. 

* Directing and coordinating law office activity, including delivery of subpoenas.

* Researching and analyzing statutes, decisions, and legal articles, codes, documents, and other  data. 

* Calling on witnesses to testify at hearings. 

Paralegal Requirements: 

• Certificate of completion from an ABA-approved paralegal certification program of education  and training, or an associate degree in paralegal studies. 

• Proficient with Microsoft Office, specifically Outlook, Word, and Excel. 

• Proficient with Client management and billing software. 

• Strong oral and written communication skills. 

• Excellent organizational skills. 

• Must be able to effectively multi-task, manage time sensitive documents and have  exceptional organizational skills in a fast-paced environment. 

• Must be able to function effectively in a busy, team-oriented environment. • Office administration experience. 

• No criminal background or ethical issues that may affect the individual’s trustworthiness. • Ability to lift and carry files/file boxes/books and folders frequently less than 10 pounds but  occasionally up to 20 pounds, ability to sit for 8 hours per day, ability to constantly use hands  for typing, writing and such fine hand manipulation.

• Ability to drive or mode of transportation to work as scheduled.
